Nepal Moto Raid is a guided motorcycle journey combining Himalayan riding, traditional hill towns, the trans-Himalayan landscapes of Lower Mustang, Buddhist heritage and wildlife experiences in the Terai. The route begins and ends in Kathmandu, rides west to lakeside Pokhara, climbs north through the Kali Gandaki Valley to sacred Muktinath, returns to Pokhara, then continues to Lumbini and Chitwan before riding back to the capital.
The itinerary is designed for international riders who are comfortable operating a motorcycle on public roads and can manage long days, changing road surfaces and variable weather. The Mustang section may include broken pavement, gravel, dust, potholes, stream crossings or roadworks. Actual conditions can change quickly.
Kathmandu → Pokhara → Tatopani → Muktinath → Jomsom → Pokhara → Lumbini → Chitwan → Kathmandu
Upon arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport, a Himanshu Tours and Travels representative welcomes the group and transfers riders to the hotel. After check-in, take time to rest, recover from the flight and adjust to the local environment. In the evening, meet the tour leader and review the overall route, accommodation plan, group riding rules, emergency contacts, local road etiquette and the support-vehicle arrangements. A welcome dinner can be arranged. Suggested stops: Hotel check-in; Welcome briefing; Motorcycle and luggage plan
After breakfast, complete motorcycle allocation, paperwork and a mechanical inspection. The lead rider explains controls, braking, safe following distances, hand signals, fuel stops and regrouping procedures. Each rider should complete a short supervised test ride before joining the main route. If time permits, take a gentle orientation ride around Kathmandu Valley and visit one or two cultural landmarks. Keep the schedule flexible so the group can adjust mirrors, luggage and riding equipment. This is not intended to be a high-speed or technical training session. Suggested stops: Motorcycle fit and safety checks; Optional Swayambhunath or Boudhanath visit; Pre-ride briefing
Depart after breakfast and ride west along the Prithvi Highway. The route follows river valleys and terraced hillsides, passing busy settlements and road junctions. Traffic, trucks, construction and narrow sections can slow progress, so the group should maintain a steady, defensive pace. Stop for tea and lunch at a suitable roadside restaurant, then continue to Pokhara. After hotel check-in, relax around Phewa Lake or enjoy dinner in the Lakeside area. The tour leader checks the motorcycles and briefs the group on the next day’s route into the Kali Gandaki corridor. Suggested stops: Trishuli River viewpoints; Roadside lunch stop; Phewa Lake / Lakeside
Leave Pokhara and ride northwest through hill settlements toward Beni, the gateway to the Kali Gandaki Valley. The paved road gradually gives way to a more variable mountain road as the route continues north. Allow extra time for traffic, roadworks, dust and surface changes. Continue through the river valley to Tatopani. Ride with generous following distances and avoid overtaking where visibility is limited. On arrival, check into a local lodge or hotel and rest. The road gradually becomes more rugged and adventurous as the group enters the mountainous Kali Gandaki Valley, with dramatic cliffs, waterfalls and spectacular Himalayan surroundings. Continue through Ghasa toward Lete, enjoying views of the surrounding mountains and remote Himalayan villages.Upon arrival in Lete, check in to the local lodge or hotel and relax after the day’s ride. In the evening, enjoy dinner and a briefing about the next day’s motorcycle journey toward Jomsom and Muktinath. Suggested stops: Beni town; Kali Gandaki Valley; Tatopani hot springs, optional
Start early and climb north through the dramatic Kali Gandaki Valley. Depending on conditions, the ride may include rough sections, gravel, loose stones, dust, potholes and water running across the road. The lead rider sets a conservative pace and the support vehicle follows where access allows. Pass through the Jomsom area and continue toward Kagbeni before ascending to Muktinath. Keep warm layers and waterproof gear accessible; conditions can be windy and much colder at altitude. On arrival, hydrate, avoid strenuous activity and allow time to acclimatize. Visit the temple area only if time, weather and local access permit. Suggested stops: Marpha village; Jomsom; Kagbeni; Muktinath Temple area
Begin the day at a measured pace. Riders may visit Muktinath Temple, a sacred pilgrimage site revered by both Hindu and Buddhist communities. Please dress respectfully, follow local rules and understand that motorcycles may need to be parked outside restricted pedestrian areas. After the visit, descend carefully toward Kagbeni and Jomsom. If road and time conditions allow, explore Kagbeni’s traditional lanes or enjoy views across the Kali Gandaki Valley. The shorter riding day offers a useful buffer for weather, mechanical checks and rest before returning to Pokhara. Suggested stops: Muktinath Temple; Kagbeni village; Jomsom town
Depart early to make the most of daylight. Retrace the Kali Gandaki Valley through the Jomsom, Marpha, Ghasa and Tatopani areas toward Beni. The same road can feel different in the opposite direction; remain alert for oncoming vehicles, livestock, loose surfaces and changing wind. After Beni, continue toward Pokhara. This is a demanding riding day, so schedule regular breaks and stop if visibility or road conditions become unsafe. On arrival, refuel if needed, check the motorcycles and enjoy a relaxed evening in Pokhara. Suggested stops: Marpha / Ghasa area; Rupse Waterfall viewpoint if safe to stop; Return to Phewa Lake
Take a recovery day after the Mustang section. Options include boating on Phewa Lake, visiting the International Mountain Museum, exploring Davis Falls and Gupteshwor Cave, or taking a short visit to a viewpoint when weather allows. The day also provides time for laundry, personal rest, motorcycle servicing and replacement of minor supplies. Optional activities are subject to availability, weather and local operating conditions. Suggested stops: Phewa Lake; International Mountain Museum; Davis Falls / Gupteshwor Cave
Leave Pokhara after breakfast and ride southeast toward the Terai, using the most suitable open route for the day. The journey transitions from hill roads to warmer, flatter plains. Expect traffic around towns and junctions, and keep hydration supplies accessible as temperatures may rise. Arrive in Lumbini, the birthplace of Siddhartha Gautama, the Buddha. After check-in, rest and prepare for a cultural visit the following day. Depending on arrival time, take a short walk near the hotel. Suggested stops: Changing landscapes from hills to plains; Arrival in Lumbini
Visit the sacred Lumbini Garden and Maya Devi Temple area, subject to opening hours and site regulations. Explore the monastic zone, where monasteries built by different Buddhist communities reflect a variety of architectural styles and traditions. This is a cultural day rather than a major riding day. Park motorcycles only in permitted areas, respect quiet zones and religious customs, and follow any restrictions on photography. The afternoon can be used for rest, a local meal or a short guided heritage visit. Suggested stops: Maya Devi Temple; Sacred Garden; International Monastic Zone
Ride east toward Chitwan through agricultural land, market towns and the Terai road network. The exact route and travel time depend on traffic and roadworks. Plan a lunch stop and avoid riding in close formation through busy settlements. Arrive in the Chitwan area and check into a lodge or resort. In the late afternoon, depending on arrival time, enjoy a riverside walk or a locally operated cultural activity. The lodge can confirm the next day’s wildlife activities and their conservation rules. Suggested stops: Terai countryside; Arrival in Sauraha / Chitwan area; Optional sunset or cultural programme
Spend the day on activities arranged by a licensed local operator, which may include a jeep safari in designated areas, birdwatching, a guided nature walk where permitted, or a visit to a local community and interpretation centre. Wildlife sightings are never guaranteed. Follow the park guide’s instructions at all times, remain in designated areas and do not approach, feed or attempt to photograph wildlife at unsafe distances. Activity availability and permitted formats can change according to park rules, conservation guidance and season. Suggested stops: Guided wildlife experience; Birdwatching; Local culture and nature interpretatio
After breakfast, begin the return ride to Kathmandu. The route follows the main highway through the river corridor and hill settlements. Traffic can build near roadworks and the Kathmandu Valley approach, so keep the group together and allow time for safe stops. On arrival, return or secure the motorcycles as agreed with the operator. The tour leader conducts a final equipment check and confirms airport transfers. Enjoy a farewell dinner and share highlights from the ride. Suggested stops: Scenic highway ride; Group photo stop where safe; Farewell dinner
After breakfast, transfer to Tribhuvan International Airport according to individual flight schedules. Please allow adequate time for airport traffic and international check-in. The tour concludes with memories of Nepal’s Himalayan roads, sacred sites, Buddhist heritage and lowland wildlife landscapes. Any extra hotel night, flight change or additional activity can be arranged separately. Suggested stops: Airport transfer; Tour concludes
