A short, comparatively easy 11-day route into Dolpo district to Phoksundo Lake, an alpine freshwater lake sacred to both Buddhists and the Bon-po religion. The trail ascends and descends through oak, pine and fir forest between the traditional villages of Dunai, Chhepka and Shyanta, passing a 330m waterfall and habitat for musk deer, snow leopard, blue sheep and Himalayan thar en route to Nepal's deepest lake.
Kathmandu → Nepalgunj → Juphal → Dunai → Chhepka → Jharana Hotel → Phoksundo Lake → Shyanta → Juphal → Nepalgunj → Kathmandu.

A scenic one-hour flight to Nepalgunj, a Terai border town near Bardia National Park, with an afternoon visit to Bageshwori temple.
A 35-minute flight to Juphal, the trailhead for Dolpo, then a descent through maize fields and villages along the Bheri River to Dunai.
Along the northern bank of the Bheri River to the Shey Phoksundo National Park checkpoint, then up through hemp farms and tropical forest to Chhepka village.
An ascent through cedar forest and a winter settlement to wide meadows above the Phoksundo gorge, with views of a high waterfall and a distant first glimpse of Phoksundo Lake.
A steep descent through birch forest to the upper Phoksundo Khola, then along the lakeshore to the ranger station near where the river drains the lake.
A day exploring Nepal's deepest lake and its surrounding monasteries and Bon-po religious sites, with views of Kanjirowa Himal (6,612m).
A climb to the last viewpoint over Phoksundo Lake, then a descent through Chunuwar and Rechi villages and forested trail back to Shyanta.
A rocky trail alongside the Bheri River out of Shey Phoksundo National Park, past Kalagauda village, back to Juphal.
An early morning flight to Nepalgunj ahead of the afternoon winds, connecting on to Kathmandu.
Transfer to Tribhuvan International Airport roughly three hours before your onward flight.
