Tamang heritage trekking trial is situated at Rasuwa district in the north of Kathmandu nearby Tibetan border of Nepal and Langtang Region. It is an interesting trek through Tamang villages and settlements. Their culture is virtually untouched. During the trekking you enjoy the dramatic views of Langtang Lirung (7245m.), Langtang Kerung, Chimse Danda ridge crossed by Ganja La (Pass) (5122m.), Dorje Lakpa (6989m.), Jugal Himal, Paldor peak, Ganesh Himal, Manaslu, Shringi Himal and Sanjen Himal ranges. The views of the Himalayan snow-capped mountains will be unforgettable. Tamang ritual, Tibetan traditional culture, festival and local Syabru dance makes this heritage trek very popular and unique.
During this trek, you can discover rough history of Tibetan ancestors. In the earlier days they came from Tibet and they changed their ethnicity in Tamang in order to get Nepali citizenship. They are descendants from Tibet and have hardly seen any tourists. Their descendants are now Buddhists and living on agriculture and trade.
This trek is very famous itself by its tropical culture of local Tamang people, beautiful architecture of the mountain houses and ancient monasteries. It also offers memorable experience through amazing landscapes of alpine and hot spring. The 12-day trip begins with a drive from Kathmandu to Syabrubesi and takes you to the remote region and untouched area that is still away from modern civilization. Next, day we start our trek into the mountainous region passing through Goljung, Gatlang, Tatopani, Thuman, Timure, Briddim, Lama Hotel, Lang tang Valley and Kyanjin Gompa respectively. Goljung, Gatlang and Langtang are traditional Tamang villages culminating cultural features. The visit to beautiful local Tamang monastery and the holy Parvati Kunda Lake at Gatlang adds delight to your trekking. Throughout our journey we will be rewarded with outstanding views of the Himalayas and get acquainted with the culture and traditions of the Tamangs who live in close vicinity to the mighty Langtang. There is a beautiful view point at Nagthali pass from where you can see the Langtang Himalayan range and Kerung (Tibet). The Tamang heritage valley bids swift mountain streams, pine forest, grassy downs and meadows strewn rugged rock and snow-capped peaks, with daisies and wild primrose.
Spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November) are the best months for this trip. Although this trip can be taken during winter, the cold temperature might not be suitable for every trekker. In the month of April and March the forest is reddish with the Rhododendron flower which is also the national flower of Nepal. The majestic view of Langtang and Ganesh Himal range is also unforgettable in Tamang heritage trekking trip. The valley is also paradise for the wild animal like leopards, red panda’s and musk deer. It is a combine camping, home stay and lodge trekking package. This can be organized with only home stay and lodge for a small group size.

You will land at the Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu (1,300 m). Our representative will pick you up at the airport and transfer you to your hotel in a private vehicle. You will freshen up and rest in your hotel room. Our guide will prepare you for the upcoming trek by providing you information necessary for the trek. Overnight in Hotel.
We wake up early, have breakfast and head for Syabrubesi (1,420 m). The drive normally takes 7-8 hours. We have two options to reach Syabrubesi – one via Kakani in the north of Kathmandu and another via Galchhi in the south-west of Kathmandu. Syabrubesi is a small mountainous village. It is the gateway of Langtang Valley Trek. Syabrubesi provides wonderful view of the Manaslu, Annapurna and Ganesh Himal. We drive along the bank of Trishuli River for most part of our journey. We rest at Syabrubesi village overnight. Overnight in Lodge/Tea house.
We make an early head start today as we will be walking quite a bit. We aim for the beautiful stone house village of Gatlang (2,200 m). We pass by Ronga Bhanjyang – where you will get awesome view of the Ganesh and Langtang mountain range. From Rhonga we descend to the Gollijung Valley, where lies a small and beautiful Golljung village. Gollijung is followed by the equally beautiful Tamang village – Gatlang.
Tatopani (2,607 m) will be our destination today. The name Tatopani translates into natural hot water spring in Nepali. There are natural hot water springs in the place – bathing at which is believed to provide cure for skin diseases. The Chilime Hydropower project in the wild Bhote Koshi river lies on our way. It is situated near the Chilime village, a little ahead of Thangbuchet. This stretch of the journey is marked by the spectacular view of the mountains.
We will trek to the picturesque Tamang village of Thuman (2,238 m) today. On our way to Thuman lies Nagathali – a hill that provides a stunning view of the Langtang, Ganesh, Kerung mountains and mountains in the Sanjen range. Nagathali is also a meditation spot of Buddhist monks. We reach Thuman via Brimdang – another typical Tamang village. There is an ancient Buddhist monastery in Thuman. We will spend our night in community managed homestays in Thuman.
Briddim (2,239 m) is a small Tamang village of 50 houses. Briddim is known more popularly as the village where Dukchu Monastery is located. The homestay experience in Briddim is wonderful and the walk to it is beautiful – the path mostly being through rhododendron and oak forests. Waterfalls and rivers are frequent on the way and you will also spot rare mountain wildlife.
We will meet the trail of the Langtang Valley trekkers today. We head to the Lama Hotel – a gateway to Langtang Valley. Lama Hotel (2,305 m) is a small teahouse that provides for a wonderful gateway in the woods. This is a short and flat trek compared to other days. We will have ample time upon reaching Lama hotel. We can explore the surrounding areas and witness wild honey hunting in the cliffs nearby.
We will begin our second leg of the trek – the trek inside Langtang Valley. Our destination for today is the Langtang village (3,430 m). The path passes through lush green forests made primarily of Rhododendron trees. We will rest at a place called Ghoda Tabela and have our lunch there. Langtang village was once a major thoroughfare of trekkers and traders. However, the village has been badly destroyed by the 2015 earthquake. Efforts are being made to bring back the once bustling place to life. We will enjoy a wonderful evening here.
We will trek to Kyanjin Gompa today. Kyanjin is a famous Buddhist shrine. The monastery lies at an altitude of 3,900 m. The road from Langtang to Kyanjin is full of other smaller stupas, prayer wheels and religious inscriptions. There is a large Mani wall with prayers written on it before we reach the village of Mundu. This is the largest Mani wall in Nepal. There is a cheese factory in Kyanjin that produces exotic Himalayan Yak cheese.
We will trek to Tserko Ri today. Tserko Ri is at the height of 5,000 m and provides an eye leveling view of the mountains in the Ganesh and Langtang mountain range. You can enjoy a beautiful view of the morning rays hitting the tall mountains if you can reach Tserko Ri early. If you are unwilling to trek to Tserko Ri then we can visit Langsisha Kharka today. Langsisha Kharka is a grazing pasture of yaks. We will come back to Kyanjin Gompa for night stay.
We will say goodbye to Langtang Valley and trek back to Lama hotel today. The journey is long but because we are going down, we can easily cover two days of walk we made earlier in a single day today. The smiling owner of Lama Hotel welcomes us and we enjoy the wild mountain honey and local food before sliding to our beds.
We come full circle to Syabrubesi – the place we started our trek. Langtang and Bhote Koshi river are among many rivers/creeks that lie on the route. We will also see frequent waterfalls where we can soak ourselves in. Take time to watch and enjoy the rich flora/fauna diversity of the last part of your trek. We can shop for handicraft products as gift for our loved ones in the local shops in Syabrubesi.
We come back to Kathmandu today. We will once again travel along the bank of Trishuli river that follows between gorges made in the Mahabharata hills. We will rest at our hotel after enjoying typical Nepali food. You can also enjoy musical and cultural show between dinner and sleep if you are willing.
We will drop you at the Tribhuvan International Airport – from where you will head back to your destination. You also have the option of extending your trip by taking part in other treks.
